Robot Vs. Robin – 50 Precious Words Entry

Vivian Kirkfield is an amazing champion of the kidlit community! Not only are her children’s books thoughtfully and beautifully written, but she also takes time to encourage aspiring children’s writers…like myself. Thank you, Vivian! Every year, she sponsors a contest called “50 precious words.” The rules for entry can be found here. In summary, she challenges us to write a story for children in ONLY 50 words! Characters, narrative arc, fun language. The story can be heart-warming, lyrical, rhyming, funny – but only 50 words.

Here’s my entry; hope you like it! (Would love a like or comment below if you do!)

Robot Vs. Robin

By Monday, Robot would rule the world.

Underground power cords – check.

High-tech missiles – check.

Satellite communication systems – check.

But he hadn’t counted on…ROBIN!

Our hapless hero only wanted a worm.

But he unearthed a power cord,

Launched a well-placed poo,

And exchanged chirps with high-flying metal birds.

World saved? Check.

  1. Batman isn’t the only hero!

On the 100th day of school, I had the girls write stories that had exactly 100 words! That was super hard. They will get a kick out of this. 🙂
