2nd Law

The ruins of time and the ravages of state,

The dulling of blades and the dimming of plate

                        Foreshadow the inexorable fate

Of those of us walking around.

                        Disillusionment dances and deftly romances

                                    Those with ideals and resolve.

Whilst hope seems dated and is roughly sedated

By those with no vision at all.

Does nothing, ideal or natural, not succumb to that 2nd Law?

Composed during my study abroad semester in London, while reflecting on the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics, which states that “the total entropy of an isolated system can never decrease over time…Isolated systems spontaneously evolve towards the state with maximum entropy.” Therefore, systems tend toward disorder (entropy) unless energy is exerted to instill order.
